Congress leader and former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday attended the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as Pakistan's Prime Minister.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan was sworn in as the 22nd Prime Minister of the country, and the oath-taking ceremony was administered by President Mamnoon Hussain.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, cricketer-turned-commentator Rameez Raja, former paceman Wasim Akram were among the special guests present for the event

 

At the ceremony, Sidhu exchanged pleasantries with Bajwa. He also hugged the Army Chief.

During the swearing in, he was seated in the first row, next to President of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) Masood Khan, reported ANI.

While leaving India for the ceremony, Sidhu had said that he was going to the other side of the border as a 'goodwill ambassador'.

"These moments of democratic change in Pakistan are very important. I feel lucky that Imran Khan, being a friend, invited me. It is an honour for me. I am going to Pakistan as a goodwill ambassador. I am going there with the hope that relations between our two nations will improve," Sidhu had told media 

The Oxford-educated Pasthun yesterday defeated his only rival and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Shahbaz Sharif in a one-sided election for the top post in the National Assembly.

In his first address to parliament, Khan had vowed to act against those who looted Pakistan.

"I promise my nation today that we will bring the tabdeeli (change) that this nation was starving for," Khan said yesterday after winning the election.

"We have to hold strict accountability in this country; the people who looted this country, I promise that I will work against them," he vowed.
