Countering Congress president Rahul Gandhi's attack during the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said those who speak of mob lynching should not forget about the incidents that happened in 1984, making a reference to the Sikh riots that broke out after the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, which left hundreds dead.

"Mob lynching incidents are very unfortunate and I asked state governments to make strictest of laws against it. But I would like to tell people who are raising these issues that the biggest case of mob lynching happened during 1984 Sikh genocide," said Singh.

Recalling that at that time, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi made fun of the BJP's two MPs in the house, Rajnath Singh said that "one should not be arrogant as time changes and the same party today has majority in Parliament."

He also took a dig at Gandhi's surprise hug move and wondered aloud if Gandhi is starting a 'chipko movement' in the House. He also made a veiled attack on Gandhi and said that those with silver spoons should not talk of farmer' plight.

"Some are born with a silver spoon, what will they know of the farmers' plight. They can only speak about these problems but not comprehend the suffering fully," said Singh.

Singh said that when the UPA was in power for a decade, the NDA did not raise doubts over it's governance. "After 15 years, a no-confidence motion has been moved against a government. We never moved a no-confidence motion in ten years when UPA was in power because we understood that the Congress had people's mandate," said the home minister.

He said that the NDA has upheld the democratic traditions of the country in a way in which a tea-seller could also become the prime minister of the country. He further said that the Opposition parties are unwilling to accept that PM has helped glorify India globally.
