Rajya Sabha Polls: BJP victory in UP exposes opportunistic face of SP, says Yogi Adityanath

The Chief Minister also served a word of caution to the BSP Supremo Mayawati without taking her name.

Reacting to the victory of all nine BJP candidates in Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha polls on Friday, an upbeat Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the win has exposed the 'opportunistic face' of the Samajwadi Party.  "The victory of all nine BJP candidates in Rajya Sabha polls has exposed the opportunistic face of the Samajwadi Party. They can only take but will never give anything in return to the party supporting them," said Yogi Adityanath.

The Chief Minister also served a word of caution to the BSP Supremo Mayawati without taking her name. "It is for the party which supported the Samajwadi Pary should to learn its lessons from the defeat of their candidate," chuckled Yogi Adityanath in a bid to forge a rift between the BSP and SP, which defeated BJP in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha by-polls recently.

The Chief Minister congratulated all winning BJP candidates, including Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, and thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party National President Amit Shah, party Central observer Piyush Goel, BJP allies Apna Dal and JBSP and party workers for the victory.

Speaking on the occasion, the party Central Observer Piyush Goel said that now the Central government will serve the country better and more effective manner after this big win in Rajya Sabha Polls.

Besides BJP's prominent winner Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, others who made it to the Upper House of Parliament from the party are Ashok Bajpai, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, Sakal Deep Rajbhar, Kanta Kardam, Anil Jain, Harnath Singh Yadav, GVL Narasimha Rao and ninth candidate Anil Kumar Agarwal, who pulled off a surpise win with the help of second preference votes.
Other candidates, including SP's actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan won with the help of first preference votes.
Counting of votes in the Rajya Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh began after a two-hour delay as the opposition Samajwadi Party and BSP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.
