Calling their faction 'the real' PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), the rebels on Friday said they have lost confidence in the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, and her statement to revive the 1987 ghost has put their lives into jeopardy.

For the first time since the revolt, five rebels, including three MLAs — Imran Reza Ansari, Abdul Majid Padder and Javaid Baigh — and two MLCs — Saifuddin Bhat and Yasir Reshi — held a news conference and hit out at Mehbooba left right and centre for what they called turning party into family fief.

"We want to get rid of the dynastic and family rule. We do not have confidence in Mehbooba Mufti's leadership. Our ways are different their ways are different. We are elected people and we have elected her," said Imran Reza Ansari, former sports minister who represents Pattan constituency.

Another rebel PDP MLA from Noorabad constituency Abdul Majid Padder said they are the real PDP and the party has been hijacked by three to four people. "We are the real PDP. We are in the PDP," he said.

Asked whether they are intending to form the government, the rebels said it was very premature to talk about the issue at this juncture.

The rebels also rejected the allegations that they are raising their voice at the behest of Delhi. "I am one of the dissenters. Are you Mehbooba Mufti telling me that Delhi convinced me to rebel against you. Wake up from your slumber. You humiliated me for three years," tweeted Imran.

Hitting out at Mehbooba for reviving 1987 ghost, Imran said people are celebrating and she should wake up. "Are you telling me Mehbooba Mufti that people will take to guns because you and your cronies have been driven out of power. It is an end to cronyism. People are celebrating. Wake up," he said.

Asking Mehbooba to stop being a "white collar killer", Imran said her statements have put the lives of rebels at risk.

"Don't tell me Mehbooba Mufti that you are a novice and don't know that painting rebellion as a Delhi exercise puts rebels' lives at a risk. Stop being a white collar killer…," he said.
