Some elements targeting me for speaking against VC, says thrashed Bihar University professor

A professor at the Mahatma Gandhi Central University in Bihar's Motihari was allegedly thrashed by a group of people for being critical of the Vice-Chancellor on Friday.

A report said that Sanjay Kumar, an assistant professor of sociology, was thrashed for sharing a Facebook post critical of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

However, Kumar said that some elements have been targeting me for speaking against the VC and this was another excuse' 

Speaking to The Wire, Mrityunjay Kumar, an assistant professor said, "The assaulters kept shouting that Kumar was being punished for speaking against the VC, for posting anti-national statements on social media.”

In a series of tweets, JNU student leader Umar Khalid said, "Outraged beyond words hearing the attack by the right-wing mob on the life of Sanjay Kumar, an ex JNU student and faculty at Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari."

He alleged that a mob dragged him out of his house, attacked him, beat up him and poured petrol over him attempting to burn him.

"He had been receiving threats for over a month for being vocal against the corrupt practices of the VC. Today, on the pretext of an FB post on ABV, right wing goons dragged him out of his house and carried out this attack," Khalid said.

The student leader also alleged that the incident was a direct consequence of the hateful propaganda that the regime has carried out against JNU students.
