After Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has done it again in Tripura. The BJP has won as many as 17 out of 20 seats where CM Adityanath campaigned in the Northeastern state, ruled by the Left for 25 years.
When things were not working for the party in Tripura, BJP president Amit Shah pressed Yogi Adityanath in constituencies having followers of Nath sect. There are about 20 constituencies in Tripura where Nath sect followers, including backwards, play a crucial role in deciding fate of candidates.
Besides heading Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath is also Mahant of Gorakhnath Peeth, the most revered religious place of Nath Sect followers, who are spread mainly in Nepal and tribal areas in hills across country. Tripura has about 30 per cent backward population and majority of them are Nath Sect followers.
Yogi Adityanath held seven public meetings and two roads shows covering 20 such constituencies to establish a direct chord with the Nath Sect followers. The UP Chief Minister also promised to get them the reservation benefits, a long pending demand of Nath Sect followers.
"People will touch his feet and listen to him patiently wherever he went. For them, the Guruji has himself descended to their land for 'darshan' and religious discourse," recalled a state BJP leader, who accompanied Adityanath on campaign trail. In his speeches, Adityanath would often mix aggressive Hindutva with development plank.
"The results were positive. People were fed up with Left doing no development in their areas except promoting their own ideology," claimed the party state leader.
"It is a historical win and an important day in the Indian politics. I congratulate PM Modi, Amit Shahji and party workers," reacted a humble Adityanath.
