75 more party plots sealed by Ahmedabad Muncipal Corporation

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) continued its drive to seal party plots for the second consecutive second day on Saturday. AMC officials closed around 75 party plots, which do not have adequate parking space as per the norms laid down and do not have a  plan approved by the civic body.

With this, the AMC has sealed 154 party plots in two days. There are, as per AMC records, around 177 party plots across the city that flout its norms. Also, the AMC authorities pulled down a three-storey building in Kubernagar that was constructed illegally, and 'freed' 4000 square ft.

Following instructions from the high court appointed Kamal Mehta committee to look into civic issues, AMC authorities had issues notices to owners to develop 50% of the plot area for parking and
get the plans cleared by the civic body. However, the plot owners said that they could only give around 23% of the party plot area as parking space.

A majority of the plots sealed on Saturday were in the New West Zone -- 40 of them. Around 25 more were 'locked' in the West Zone, 5 in the East, 1 in Central and 1 in the South Zone. 

The AMC officials say that this is just the beginning of their initiative to free parking space. And their move might also be followed by sealing or breaking illegal constructions across the city. As per their data, there are around 20,000 illegal constructions in the city. p
