The promoters of the controversial Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society, have decided to move Bombay high court against Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) and Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) for their decision to disconnect electricity supply to the society and revoke occupation certificates (OC) issued to its members.

Following the controversy, the Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan directed the MMRDA to revoke the occupation certificates issued to the members of the society.

The BEST, which supplies water and electricity to the building, has now issued a notice to the society asking them to produce the OC or else the electricity supply would be disconnected.

"The society has decided to file a petition in the court against the decision of the BMC and MMRDA as well as against the media for tarnishing their image. The land neither belongs to the defence nor it was reserved for the Kargil war heroes. It belongs to the state government," a source close to the development told PTI.

A controversy has erupted over how the Adarsh Society in Colaba, originally meant to be a six-storey structure to house Kargil war heroes and widows, got converted into a 31-storey building.

The promoters of the society, however, did not respond despite repeated attempts.
