His world is pitch black and silent. He is not able to see the beautiful smile on his daughter's face nor is he able to hear her prattle.

That is the life of city's Zamir Dhale who suffers from multi-sensory disabilities. Dhale is deaf and blind. But that doesn't stop him from leading a normal life. He is the sole breadwinner in his family. Dhale was awarded the CavinKare Ability Mastery Award for his extraordinary achievements in the field of deaf-blindness on February 13 in Chennai. The award was presented by Cavincare Pvt Ltd along with Ability foundation, an NGO working to integrate people with disability into mainstream society.

With the help of his interpreter, Dhale says, "I love working with deaf and blind people in India and I hope that all deaf and blind people be given equal recognition like the US and other countries. I want them to be independent and confident in life."

Dhale, is currently associated with an organisation called Sense International India which is situated in the premises of the Blind People's Association. He has presented papers about his life and issues related to the rights of the deaf and blind during his visits abroad. He has also been working towards incorporating the rights of deaf and blind people in the Persons with Disability Act and is of the opinion that the Act should have special provisions for the deaf and blind, so that there will be schemes and provisions specially meant for them.

Dhale, who has worked with Bollywood actors, Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan for the movie Black, teaching them sign language in the movie said, “The differently abled people should receive good education as it is the most important thing in life after which they can seek good jobs. I have a dream to work as a consultant in the future and continue working with the deaf and blind people."
