The gang, which charged Rs 25-35 lakh from aspirants, allegedly used a sophisticated software to email images of the question paper using mobile phones and bluetooth concealed in their shirts.
Delhi Police today claimed to have smashed a racket involving leak of post graduate medical entrance papers using bluetooth technology with the arrest of five youths, including a doctor and an MBBS student.
The gang, which charged Rs 25-35 lakh from aspirants, allegedly used a sophisticated software to email images of the question paper taken by two MBAs, posing as PG aspirants, using mobile phones and bluetooth concealed in their shirts.
The racket was smashed yesterday while the entrance test conducted by AIIMS for filling 50 per cent of PG seats in government medical colleges across the counrty was going on at 156 centres.
It all started with the arrest of a second year MBBS student in an Ujjain medical college Mohit Chaudhury (23), who, police claim, is the mastermind of the racket, from Pragati Maidan yesterday morning on a tip-off.
The other arrested were Dr Amit Puniya (23), who was appearing for the entrance test, two MBAs Kapil Kumar (27) and Krishan Pratap Singh (27) and Bhishma Singh (27), a graduate who allegedly helped the gang in using computers.
"Kumar and Singh filed applications for entrance tests posing as doctors and giving false MBBS registration numbers. They were alloted a centre in Sector 28, Noida. Both of them carried a mobile phone and a bluetooth stitched in their shirts.
"The mobiles were having a sophisticated software through which the photographs taken could be emailed. They took the photograph of the 23-page question booklet and forwarded the images to Chaudhury," Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), told reporters.
Chand said within 30 minutes of the beginning of the exam, the question paper was out.
Chaudhury allegedly downloaded the images with the help of Bhishma Singh, Chand said, adding, he was on way to meeting his associates to solve the paper when he was apprehended by the police at Pragati Maidan.
"The candidates were to receive the answers through mobile phones. They had minute ear phones fixed along with bluetooth concealed in the shirt. Punia was one of the candidates and was arrested," he said.
Chand said each candidate was to pay Rs 25-35 lakh and the payment was to be made after they had been selected. In order to ensure they received the payment, the racketeers took in possession the original certificates of the candidates.
There are five-six more candidates who had taken the help of the racket.
Chand said soon after Chaudhury's arrest, a team was sent to the exam centre where his two associates were appearing for the entrance and arrested them. From there, Punia was also arrested.
Another police team went to AIIMS where the original question paper was tallied with the one Chaudhury was possessing and found it was same.
Chand said it was Chaudhury who arranged the candidates for the exam. Kumar, who did MBA from Jamia Millia Islamia, was planning to do a PhD from a reputed institute while Singh did his MBA from IMT, Meerut after doing an MA in Public Administration.
He said AIIMS officials were not involved in the racket.
