Last year recruiters’ conclave was held in Singapore.
It was the vibrancy of Singapore's economy that had lured IIMA, one of the country's top B-Schools, to step out of its campus for the first time and host a recruiters' conclave overseas.
Last year, Singapore had registered an impressive GDP growth of 17.9% for the first year and the premier institute in order to market its rich talent pool to global firms, organised a conclave there on December 6, 2010. However, the global slowdown has resulted in IIMA scrapping its plans to hold another recruiters conclave abroad for now.
“The global environment is uncertain at the moment and it is difficult to ascertain which sectors will be strong in the immediate future. We will wait for 2-3 years to get a correct picture and also add variety to the destination,” informed professor Saral Mukherjee, chairperson of IIM-A placement committee.
Mukherjee, who had attended the conference in Singapore with IIMA director Samir Barua, added that this time the conclave will be held in India post the summer placements in October, 2011.
“Domestic growth in India is stable and there is a good demand for skill and high quality man-power. We have not confirmed the
venue and dates yet but most likely, it will be held after the completion of summer placements.”
Close to 60 global companies had participated in the conclave in Singapore. Mukherjee said that the conclave holds lot of importance as it serves as a medium to understand needs and concerns of the recruiters. “Recruiters conclave is an important event as it gives voice to the recruiters to address their problems. It is a platform to know their response and issues they face. Through the conclave, we also add potential global recruiters to our recruitment.”
IIMA had announced several key decisions at the conference in Singapore with the Cohort Process for recruitment being one
of them. The first ever recruiters conclave was held last October in Mumbai where IIMA invited 160 recruiters, directors of top B-schools etc.
