BJP Andhra Pradesh unit today urged the state chief minister K Rosaiah to fulfill the
assurances of late YS Rajasekhar Reddy who had promised to bring down prices of red gram and sugar.

In a letter addressed to Rosaiah, the BJP state unit president Bandaru Dattatreya said that the late YSR had assured the people from the floor of the house that all possible measures would be taken to bring down the prices of essential commodities, particularly of red gram and sugar.

YSR also had said 50,000 tonnes of red gram would be imported and made available to the people at a cost of Rs60 per kg from October 1, Dattatreya said in his letter.

One of the promises that YSR made just before his tragic death was to make red gram available for a price of Rs60 per kg and to reduce the price of sugar while continuing the efforts of bringing down the price of fine rice, the BJP leader said. It was unfortunate that untimely demise of Rajasekhar Reddy has created a peculiar situation and the hoarders and black marketers have been exploiting it, the BJP state chief Dattatreya said in his letter.

He urged Rosaiah to expedite the process of importing red gram on war footing and open out-lets across the state for selling it.

The BJP leader also requested the government to import sugar as its price was increased 75% in a month.

After three weeks of the death of YSR, there was no sign of reduction in the price of any essential commodities, he said.

The cabinet ministers, instead of realising their responsibility to help people who were facing difficult to meet their day to day needs, are busy in lobbying for the chief
minister's post, Dattatreya said.

Dattatreya said the only way to pay tribute to late YSR, was by bringing down the prices of food grains and enable people celebrate festivals.
