The Centre has granted Rs1,500 crore for develoment of road network in Jammu and Kashmir, minister for roads and buildings GM Saroori today said.
 
"Taking a sympathetic view of the demand of Rs2,000 projected by the state government for connecting militancy prone and remote areas, Centre has granted a special package of Rs1,500 crore," Saroori told reporters here.
 
"We thank prime minister Manmohand Singh, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, Union rural development minister PC Joshi and Union minister Farooq Abdullah for it," he said.
 
"Under this special package, as many as 494 road connectivity schemes would be executed to set up as many as 2,239 km of road length in remote and mountainous belt of state", he said adding it would also connect as many as 584 habitations in the state.
 
In Jammu region, 210 schemes would be implemented to construct 1,216 km of road length to connect 378 habitations at a cost of Rs759.64 crore, he said.
 
In Kashmir region, 284 road schemes would be executed to setup 1,023 km of road length at a cost of Rs700.56 crore, he said adding these schemes would be executed in 7th phase.
