The gap between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Congress high command is widening owing to the Kadapa MP’s noncompliance with party line.
Despite the high command asking him to refrain from high-decibel tours to console families mourning former chief minister YS Rajasekhara (YSR) Reddy’s death, the YSR scion has set out on a mega tour covering coastal districts of the state.
Jagan Mohan had apparently promised the high command that the tour would be personal and he would not make any political comments. He, however, broke his promise late on Sunday in Srikakulam when he alleged that chief minister K Rosaiah was more worried about retaining his post. “Party [Congress] MLAs and MPs are being stopped from participating in my tour. Morals in politics have hit rock bottom after YSR’s death. CM is more worried about retaining his post,” Jagan Mohan said.
Senior Congress leaders sharply reacted to his comments and expressed anger to the party high command. By Monday afternoon, it was said that the party high command was in a mood to issue Jagan Mohan a show-cause notice. However, the task was assigned to law minister M Veerappa Moily.
Party sources said the notice was on its way, but there was no confirmation.
Meanwhile, AICC secretary Madhu Goud Yaskhi said Jagan Mohan’s consolation tour was to blackmail the party high command. “It is a farce and nothing but blackmailing tactics,” he said.
There were also indications about the Congress high command strategising to expel Jagan Mohan since he is anyway preparing ground to launch his own party on YSR’s death anniversary, September 2.
