Fog again disrupts flight operations at IGI airport, Delhi

Air operations at the IGI airport remained affected due to dense fog today, disrupting the schedules of over 50 domestic and international flights.

"Fog started enveloping the airport from 10 pm last night and runway visibility dropped to 50 metres due to which 21 domestic and international flights were diverted while 15 others were cancelled," an airport official said.

Some other flights to Chandigarh, Jaipur and Shimla were also cancelled.

Around 10 international flights arriving here were delayed. Similarly, those departing also got delayed. 

The runway visibility last night dropped to 50 metres and continued to hover between 50 metres and 100 metres, affecting the schedules of departing flights, as the minimum runway visibility required to take-off in poor visibility is 150 metres.

Though some flights landed using CAT-IIIB Instrument landing system last night, but 21 flights had to be diverted to Jaipur and Lucknow.

According to the Met department, the dense fog is likely to dissipate after 11 am.

Yesterday, over 200 flights were affected after thick fog enveloped the airport and reduced the visibility to 50 metres.
