Govt to launch publicity blitz on its 100-day achievements

The government is all set to project the achievements in various flagship programmes initiated by at least five ministries on completing 100 days in office.

Ministries of Human Resource Development, Health and Family Welfare, Rural Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Urban Development would highlight the achievements in their respective ministries in the next few days.

The HRD ministry would begin the exercise with Kapil Sibal addressing a press conference tomorrow to highlight various initiatives in his ministry with the focus on the progress in the flagship programme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

Health and Family Welfare ministry would project the National Rural Health Mission, the Rural Development ministry will highlight the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Urban Development Ministry will focus on Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and the Housing ministry on Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana.   

"This is part of Bharat Nirman Quarterly Progress Report" to reach out to the people on the progress made in various flagship programmes, sources said.

While the Congress-led government could take credit for passage of the bill to provide free education to children and for empowerment of women, spiralling prices of essential goods and drought in several parts of the country spoilt the party for the coalition.

The 100-day programme of the government showed the intensity of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who had made it clear to his cabinet colleagues that 'business-as-usual approach will not do.
