140 officers attending course at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
Underlining the importance of high-level managerial skills among top police officers for tackling security-related concerns gripping the country, Indian Police Service (IPS) officers will be imparted these skills by none other than the top B-school of the country, the city-based Indian Institute of Management Ahmedanad (IIMA).
IIMA, in collaboration with the London School of Business in London, has started a managerial training programme for IPS officers from across the country at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad.
While the four-week-long course, called phase-V Mid-Career Training Programme, started on July 5 for the first time this year, the institutes
are looking forward to conducting it every year.
Abhishek Mishra, a faculty member of IIMA, who is the director of the programme, said, "Around 12 faculty members of IIMA, along with institute director Samir Barua and dean BH Jajoo, will be taking part in conducting the course."
Around 140 IPS officers from various states, including four from Gujarat, are taking part in the training programme.
The first three weeks of the four-week-long training programme at NPA will cover the basic concepts of strategic management, top-level leadership, change management, team-building and interaction with top-level government leaders and management experts.
The sub-modules formulated by IIMA for the course include strategic management, human resources and performance management, public policy, information systems, operations and infrastructure, finance and accounting, communications, organisational behaviour and economics.
Mishra said, "The course is aimed at broadening the participants' world view and invest them with conceptual management skills suitable for a world-class organisation head, not restricting to managing police force alone." The participants will also attend sessions at the London Business School in London during the fourth week.
While the three-week-long sessions at the National Police Academy will form the core content, in London, the participants will have further interaction with top management, leadership and strategic thinkers and practitioners.
They will also make visits to centres of excellence in various fields.
