Indo-Israeli firm in race to bag railways' security project

An Indo-Israeli joint venture company is among the seven firms which are in the race to bag the Railways' multi-crore security upgrade project in the national capital.

Teramer and six other companies have been shortlisted for the installation of hi-tech security gadgets, worth about Rs 25 crore, at major railway stations including New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin, railway officials said.

About 430 IP-based CCTV including moving and zoom cameras, dozens of baggage X-rays, door-frame metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors and vehicle scanners will be procured to secure the railway stations before the Commonwealth Games, they said.

"We will procure these hi-tech security equipment and make them operational at all important railway stations in the capital before the Games," a senior Railway Ministry official said.

Seven firms including Teramer have been shortlisted in the technical bidding. Nelco, BCL Secure, BEL, ECIL, HCL and CMC are other Indian companies which have shown interest in bagging the Integrated Security System project.

After the technical bidding, the bidders have to qualify in the financial bidding to bag the project.

"The final bidder will be selected after the financial bidding," said the official.

Besides installing the security gadgets, Railways will undertake a massive exercise to carry out fencing of these railway stations.

Railways are also hiring a few sniffer dogs for securing stations during the Games.
