Man arrested for molesting Korean woman in Kolkata

A man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a South Korean woman in a private bus in Kolkata on Monday, police said.

"One person has been arrested based on the woman's complaint," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Kolkata) DP Singh said.

A case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been slapped against the accused.

If proved guilty, the accused will face imprisonment which may extend up to two years, or fined, or both.

The incident occurred when the bus was passing through the Strand Road area under the Burrabazar police station.

The incident comes less than a week after a British woman was hospitalised in Agra with a serious injury after jumping out of her hotel window to escape a sexual assault.
