Rattled by the car bomb explosion in a diplomat's car in a high security area, the Home Ministry has asked the Delhi Police to come up with a plan to install close circuit TV cameras across all intersections here.
Lack of CCTVs has repeatedly proved to be a major hindrance for Delhi Police in investigating recent blast cases, including the high court blast last September and the 2008 serial blasts.
The Delhi Police which is taking help of the footage of some CCTVs installed in nearby private bungalows of yesterday's blast site, in which an Israeli women diplomat and three others were injured, could not ascertain the licence plate number of the motorcycle suspected to have been used to plant the device.
Realising the need for equipping every intersection with CCTV monitors, the Home Ministry has now asked police to come up with a plan which is expected to cost Rs 50 crore, ministry sources said.
The sources said Delhi Police have been assured that funds would be no problem for the project.
After the high court blast, Delhi Police had been planning to make it mandatory for shopping malls to have CCTV surveillance but so far not much progress has been made on that, they said.
