Chief minister Narendra Modi, who had been kept in isolation for a week because of swine flu (H1N1 virus), made his first public appearance on Friday morning. At round 11.00 am, he visited the Cyber Snehmilan to wish people of state a prosperous New Year through 20,000 satcom.

He asked people of the state to put in greater efforts for the Golden Jubilee celebration in 2010. He conveyed the message through a video conference from his office in Gandhinagar. Modi also met senior cabinet ministers Narottam Patel, Anandi Patel, Nitin Patel, Raman Vora, chief secretary D Rajagopalan, DGP SS Khandwawala and senior secretaries of various departments.

He wished government officials of all the 26 districts, gave a motivational speech and also interacted with officials and people via video conference. Modi spent the rest of the day at home. The chief minister is likely to rest at home on Saturday and Sunday as well and may join office from Monday. He will address International Management Conclave organised in Indore via video conference from his office.

In his speech, Modi said that with the day of Gujarat’s Golden Jubilee celebration drawing near (May 1, 2010) every citizen of the state should strive to make the event a grand success. He urged every citizen to go one step ahead every day for the greater development of Gujarat.

His address was directed towards officials, social and political leaders of panchayats and district panchayats, woman, children, youth, prominent citizens and NGOs in Gujarat. He talked about the public awareness drive of Swarnim Jayanti Sankalpa Yatra and the collective effort that people need to put in for that.

He said that the citizens need to work hard to take the state to newer heights of development in all spheres.

He requested teachers, social leaders, parents and everyone related to education to join ‘Gunotsav’, a three-day programme to be held on November 12, to improve the quality of primary education in the state. Modi appealed to all the sarpanchs of the state to work toward the elimination of malnutrition among poor children and woman. He also mentioned about the Gujarat Olympic-Khel Mahakumbh event, which is scheduled to be held next year.
