NID stamp for Indian Science Congress

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh released a specially designed stamp on Thursday to celebrate the centenary year of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) at New Delhi, and presented it to President Pranab Mukherjee.

It was a proud moment for city-based National Institute of Design (NID) as the stamp was designed by a faculty member of the premier institute, Tridha Gajjar.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi approached the institute in August 2012 asking it to design the stamp. Gajjar said it took her two months to prepare the basic concept, present it to the ministry and come up with designs. She designed four stamps of which the final one was selected immediately.

Describing the stamp, Gajjar said it depicts hundred years of ISC and the theme is ‘Towards Scientific Temper’. The stamp shows a child, considered to be tender, mouldable and representing the future of India, observing a flower through a magnifying lens. This shows his interest and curiosity about the world around him signifying scientific temperament. Shown in the background is the DNA structure.
