Prosecution commences arguments in Jessica Lall murder case

The Delhi Police today commenced its argument before the Supreme Court in Jessica Lall murder case countering the defence contention that the high court had made up its mind to hold Manu Sharma guilty by overturning the trial court verdict acquitting him in the case.

Solicitor general Gopal Subramanium hailed the Delhi High Court judgment convicting and imposing life sentence on Sharma alias Siddharth Vasisth.

Making his submission before a Bench comprising justice P Sathasivam and justice Swatanter Kumar, the solicitor general said the high court has rightly reappreciated the evidence which were disregarded by the trial court.

"The high court was justified in reappreciating the evidence which were not properly appreciated by the trial court," Subramanium submitted.

In the brief submission, he read out the evidence of eye witness Shayan Munshi, model-turned-actor, who was working as a bar tender when Lall was shot dead.

The prosecution had said Lall was shot dead allegedly by Manu Sharma at the Tamarind Court Cafe restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani at Qutub Colonade in South Delhi on the intervening night of April 29-30, 1999, where she had hosted a party for her Canadian husband George Mailhot who was  leaving the country.
