AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik made a strong plea to Sonia Gandhi that she should ask the young leader to also look at the Seva Dal.
After the Youth Congress and the NSUI, Rahul Gandhi is expected to give attention to the Seva Dal to make it more vibrant.
An indication to this effect was given today by none other than Congress president Sonia Gandhi at a national convention of the Seva Dal, whose first president was Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik made a strong plea to Gandhi that she should ask the young leader to also look at the Seva Dal.
"Sometimes we feel that certain deficiencies that we face could be removed and we will get more strengthened if we get Rahul Gandhi's support," he said.
Responding with a smile to the suggestion, the Congress president said Wasnik should be the one to tell the young leader about this demand.
Incidentally, the first indications of Rahul Gandhi entering active politics had come at a Congress Seva Dal camp at Ghataprabha in Karnataka a few years back, when senior party leader Janardan Dwivedi had made a demand for it.
Soon after that Rahul was made the party candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in 2004 with Sonia Gandhi moving to Rae Bareli.
To the demand from Seva Dal's chief organiser Mahendra Joshi that Gandhi should address a meet of the 15000 newly-trained volunteers, Wasnik revealed that Gandhi has already expressed her willingness to spend two to three days with the Seva Dal.
Earlier, Gandhi clapped and responded with a smile when Joshi thanked her for taking an initiative on the Women Reservation Bill and said "it is now the responsibility of brothers to ensure that sisters move forward".
Gandhi did not touch upon the issue of women reservation but maintained that the Congress has always stood by the tribals, Dalits, minorities and women and will continue to do so.
At another point, she said that only those people succeed, who take risk and initiative, adding that those who keep fearing the consequences, fail to get success.
She urged the Seva Dal workers to ensure that the designs of those, who spread hatred in the name of caste, religion and region to suit their political interests do not succeed.
She said that 'Aam Admi' (common man) is above all in a democracy and asked the Seva Dal workers to spread the
message "Congress ka haath; Aam Admi ke Saath (Congress' hand is with the common man) ".
