With fear of global turmoil hitting any time, freshers in Ahmedabad are worried and seeking new jobs eagerly. But, here is good news for them. Compared to August 2010, the recruitments in August 2011 have increased by 13% in Ahmedabad. IT sector has contributed highest in recruitment in last one year.
According to a report on ‘Hiring Activity in India’ by Naukri.com, recruitment in Ahmedabad grew by 13% on a year-on-year basis. The Naukri Job Speak Index of Ahmedabad was around 961 points in August 2010 which grew to 1,086 in August 2011, showing a rise of 13% rise in hiring activities in city. The report says that hiring activity for the IT sector, which contributes approximately 12% jobs in Ahmedabad grew by 8% in August 2011 when compared to July 11. While, both Pharmaceuticals and banking sectors saw 3% upward movement in their indices in August 2011 during the same period.
However, there is some worry as well. In last three months, the job speak index of Ahmedabad has fallen by around 8% from 1,186 points in June 2011 to 1,086 in August 2011. But experts feel there are hopes of further rise in hiring activity in coming times. “Hiring activity especially for multinational companies, are planned about two quarters in advance” said Hitesh Oberoi, managing director and CEO, Info Edge India. He further added “While it is possible that the slowdown in economic activity may lead to some firms lowering down there hiring pace, the reflection of the same on the overall hiring sentiment may be visible around mid-October.”
Another study of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) reveals that in tier I cities, the job creation in August has declined from about 86% to 74% as against the corresponding period last year.
The Assocham Placement Pattern (APP) study released recently analysed the latest trends evolving in job openings on a monthly basis among 56 major Indian cities, including Ahmedabad and across 32 sectors from a sample of about 62,181 job opportunities listed on three top job portals.
An estimated 45,859 total jobs were generated in tier I cities during the last month registering an increase of over 30% on Y-o-Y basis.
Among these Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune emerged on top.
"Hiring activity in August remained widespread mainly across entry and middle management levels as key industry sectors look to strengthen their workforce to improve their business activities even as macro-economic scenario in the later half of FY 2010-11 witnessed a slowdown," said Bhagyesh Soneji, chairperson ASSOCHAM Regional Office Ahmedabad. "This is a very positive development highlighting the resilience of India Inc," she said.
Agreeing to the fact, COO & co-founder of Motif Inc, Parul Mehta said, "In past one year, we have been recruiting continuously. Almost every month, we have been adding new batch as we are getting better business from abroad."
Talking about fear of slowdown or recession, Mehta said that it is one kind of opportunity.
"Due to slowdown, the companies in abroad had to cut down the cost for which they have been looking for companies like us to outsource their business. We have also got some inquires. So, this situation may not be good for them, but for us, if we get some more business, we might need some more hands in coming time," she said.
