A US court has sentenced designer Anand Jon to 59 years in jail for sexual misconduct, but his sister Sanjana is outraged by the verdict
This isn’t justice
This is a clear case of injustice and racism. Anand has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His lawyer said some of the women had come forward because they were disgruntled models who had failed in the fashion industry. Most of the women travelled from one state to the other to file a case against Anand. So it meant that the same girl who filed a case in New York, went to Los Angeles and then to New Jersey. Anand now has been convicted for 14 counts and some of them are as strange and silly as touching the thigh, which is considered as sexual assault in the US, but they don’t realise that he was a designer and in a fitting session would need to take the measurements of the girl. It is shocking.
Anand has been framed
In 2007, Anand along with his partner, an Italian guy, were floating a company. Anand was getting a lot of money as most celebrities knew him. But his partner wanted him to launder some money and Anand refused saying it was unethical. That was it. His partner threatened him, he said you would be on the streets and weep all your life. After that his partner sent his mistress and friend to Anand’s place and then on began the trouble. And subsequently girls cropped up from different areas and started the trial. No one questioned that.
The Indian government should intervene
I want the government to take some action. I know they can’t look into the legal procedures but they can certainly look at the illegalities surrounding the case. We are victims of racism. And we have seen it happen to even eminent personalities like Shah Rukh Khan and APJ Abdul Kalam. The Indian government has taken action, then why not in Anand’s case?
