Temperature dips further, Mumbai shivers

If you’re planning to tuck away the cardigans, it’s better you hold on for a bit. The nip in the air is here to stay, at least a while longer. The city will continue to wake up to chilly mornings, as Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of 12.4 degree celsius, making it one of the coldest days of the season in the last 10 years. Santacruz recorded a temperature of 12.4 degree celsius while Colaba registered 17.1 degree celsius.

On Friday, Santacruz stood at 12.6 degree celsius and Colaba recorded 17.1 degree celsius respectively. The lowest minimum temperature in the last ten years was recorded at 10 degree celsius last year.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have attributed the drop in minimum temperature to the western disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir and the severe cold wave conditions in northern India.

S Sudevan, director of IMD, said that other parts of Maharashtra like Pune, Nashik and Nagpur also reported low temperatures.

“The severe cold wave conditions have prevailed over other parts of the country like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” he said.

He added that the weather conditions are likely to be the same for the next two days. He said that western disturbances in the northern part of the country and the wind blowing over the state has led to a dip in temperatures.
