Thieves target design studio director's house in broad daylight

When Bhanwarsinh Rathore and his wife were busy teaching their students at their design institute on Drive-In Road, thieves broke into their house and vanished with cash and valuables worth Rs13.45 lakh on Saturday afternoon.

Rathore, director cum principal of Bhanwar Rathore Design Studio, lives with his wife Amarjeet and their eight-year-old daughter in Oxford Tower on Gurukul Road. After locking their house on Saturday at 11 am, Rathore, along with his wife and daughter, left for the institute, where students prepare for entrance exams to design and fashion institutes.

When Rathore returned at 10 pm, he was shocked to see the main grill’s lock broken. After learning about the house-break, Rathore informed Vastrapur police.

The investigation revealed that thieves first broke the lock of the metal door. They then broke the side panel of the interlock by inserting a screwdriver into the gap between the door and the wooden panel.

Having ample time, thieves then broke the metal almirah in the bedroom. They stole cash and valuables worth Rs13.45 lakh, including Rs10 lakh in cash, two gold chains, one gold biscuit, one mobile phone and one camera. While searching for clues from the scene of crime, the police found the screwdriver used to break open the interlock.  

A well-known residential building in Gurukul area, Oxford Tower has 160 apartments. When Vastrapur police tried to get details from the security guard or CCTV footage, they were surprised to know that the society doesn’t have any security guard or CCTV cover.

Based on the complaint filed by Rathore, the police have started their investigation.
