Tortured woman from Gandhinagar ends life

A married woman from Mehsana, on Wednesday, consumed poison in the parking lot of Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar. She was immediately rushed to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead on Wednesday night.

The woman was identified as Ami Kalpesh Patel, a resident of Aerodrome Road in Mehsana. Investigation revealed that hers was a love marriage with Kalpesh Patel against the will of her parents. The two got married in 2006 and since then Ami's parents have been consciously torturing her for getting married to Kalpesh, sources in the police department said.

Ami's parents didn't mend their ways even when Ami became a mother to a baby boy in 2008. They asked her to end her relation with Kalpesh, at any cost.

Fed up with the torture, Ami and Kalpesh decided to get separated and got divorced in 2009. However, later the two realised that it was not a wise decision and thus got married again after a few months of divorce. This decision didn't go well with her parents who allegedly threatened her with her life. However, Ami then lodged a complaint with Mehsana police against her parents in 2009. At the same time she filled an application with SWAGAT Online, an initiative by CM Narendra Modi for the redressal of the common man's grievances.

To check the status of her application submitted to SWAGAT Online, Ami visited Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar on Wednesday afternoon. After she reached the parking lot of block No. 2 of the Sachivalaya, she consumed poison.

She was immediately rushed to Gandhingar Civil Hospital. Later, during treatment, she died on Wednesday night.

After learning about Ami's death, Kalpesh approached Gandhinagar police, Sector 7 and lodged a complaint against his in- laws for abetment to suicide.
