Work on Delhi metro's phase III likely to kick off in November

Fast-tracking its preliminary work of Phase-III, Delhi Metro has invited applications for the design of Overhead Equipment (OHE) system for elevated corridors of the ambitious project which is expected to kick off in November.
Besides, it has also invited applications for design of power supply for underground lines like the Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor.
The OHE is used to transmit electrical energy to trams, trolleybuses or trains at a distance from the energy supply point.
The tenders for design of 25kV Overhead Equipment (OHE) system for elevated lines and power supply for both underground and elevated lines including checking of design of receiving substations and design validation have floated for Jahangirpuri-Badli, Central Secretariat-Kashmiri Gate, Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar Janakpuri-Botanical Garden Corridor and Badarpur-Faridabad corridors.
The designs would be submitted to the Delhi Metro in the next few months after which a decision on whether any changes in the OHE system will be taken.
"As of now there are no plans to change the design of the OHE system. But if there is a need it could be done. But that will be done only after the designs are submitted," a DMRC spokesman said.
The Phase-III project envisages connecting another 103 km of the national capital to the Metro network and it would begin with the construction of a small stretch between Central Secretariat and Mandi House in November.
