Five-day defence financial management course inaugurated Jaipur Military Station

A five day Defence Financial Management Course (DFMC) for Army officers was inaugurated by Lt Gen Cherish Mathson, Army Commander, Sapta Shakti Command on Monday in Jaipur Military Station. The five-day programme is being organised at HQs Sapta Shakti Command from July 16-20 under the aegis of Saroj Kumar, Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA), Sapta Shakti Command.

Speaking on the occasion, Saroj Kumar informed the gathering that the syllabus of the 6th edition of the DFMC, which is being attended by about 68 Army officers has undergone a change over the years as per the current requirements of the Army. 

He advised the participants to make use of the opportunity to learn from the experienced faculty of the Defence Accounts Department and Army to become efficient financial managers besides being military commanders.

General Cherish Mathson, in his inaugural address, thanked the PCDA for organising the course and outlined that finance is the binding stream of every activity. He highlighted the various changes taking place in the field of Defence Financial Management with the advent of Delegation of Financial Powers to Defence Services (DFPDS 2016), General Financial Rules (GFR 2017), Government-e-Market Place (GeM) and more recently Goods and Service Tax (GST). Emphasising that public money is a very scarce and important national resource, he said that it was, therefore, important to correctly and effectively utilise this to help keep the Army operationally and functionally efficient. 

In view of the recent impetus being provided to acquisition of defence equipment, he brought out that knowledge in the financial domain assumes special significance and exhorted officers to keep abreast with the latest rules and regulations to carry out all procurements in a transparent and efficient manner.
