Hawala cash seized from Jaipur Airport, one arrested

The accused, a resident of Mansarover area, was carrying currencies of different countries amounting to 46 lakh in Indian rupees in a bag

On Tuesday, a huge amount of hawala money was seized from Jaipur Airport and a youth was arrested after the state police’s special wing – the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) – received intel about the youth. 

The youth was carrying currencies of various countries in bag amounting to over two crore in Indian rupees. The youth has been arrested by the cops and is being interrogated about the contacts as to the starting and end point in the hawala chain.

According to the police the arrested youth has been identified as Anil Jain, a resident of Mansarover area of Jaipur. “Early on Tuesday morning, we had received information from our sources that a youth was trying to take foreign currency through hawala transaction. It was learnt that the youth was headed to Dubai” officials said.

On learning about the hawala transaction, cops reached the Jaipur airport and started a search for the youth. “Based on the information about the appearance of the youth and also with random search, the youth – Anil jain – was found and his belongings were checked. The team was shocked to find that the youth was carrying currencies of Saudi Arab, Qatar, Bahrain and various other middle eastern countries. The youth was also carrying Bangladeshi Currency,” officials said.

The recovery was of approximately 1.30 lakh Saudi Riyal, five lakh Bangladeshi Taka, nine hundred Bahraini Dinar, three hundred Qatari Riyal, over fifteen hundred Omani Riyal amongst other. The youth and money have been handed over to the Income Tax department and Customs. The ATS is trying to find out if the money was to be used for anti-national activities. 

Headed to Dubai

The arrested youth has been identified as Anil Jain, a resident of Mansarover area of Jaipur. “Early on Tuesday morning, we had received information from our sources that a youth was trying to take foreign currency through hawala transaction.
