In the upcoming Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can refuse tickets to 50 per cent of its sitting legislators. And in their place, new faces can be given tickets instead of the present MLAs. The BJP has already started preparations for this wherein the party is preparing second-line of leaders, who are busy strengthening the organisation across the state. In the booth and mandal level organisational executive, party workers are included instead of the supporters of the MLAs.

In the upcoming Assembly elections, BJP will give new faces a chance and has already adopted this formula in other states too.

Discussions are on within the party where more than 50 per cent sitting legislators can be refused tickets this time. With this denial of tickets during the upcoming Assembly elections BJP can face resentment from the sitting MLAs and their supporters. In most of the Assembly constituency areas, the legislators use their influence to get their supporters appointed in Mandal and Booth executives. This can affect organization’s work. Seeing this probability, the BJP has made changes in the booth and mandal executives.

Also, it is preparing second line leaders. Under the preparations for the Assembly elections, the booth formation week campaign of the BJP was held last month. During this campaign, booth verification work was done. For this, an in-charge was appointed in each Assembly area. BJP gave second-line leaders the charge of Assembly constituencies and presented them as organization leaders. In-charge of the respective Assembly constituencies then changed the organisational executives at booth and mandal levels and included those workers the executives who are loyal to the party.

Second Line

Legislators are the face of the party in the Assembly constituency. But now the organization has promoted leaders of second line who will be the face of the party in the Assembly area. In such a situation, if the ticket is not given to the MLA, the work of the organization will not be affected, an Assembly area in charge of the party told DNA.
