Rajasthan: Officials take lessons on accurate use of EVM machines

Rajasthan chief electoral officer Ashwini Bhagat also addressed the conference and said that first time every booth in Rajasthan will make use of VVPAT machines.

A workshop on First Level Checking (FLC) of EVMs, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines on Friday was conducted in the secretariat where senior officials and technical teams with Election Commission of India (ECI) gave presentation to the collectors, district electoral officers on how to use machines fairly.

Special instructions were issued to the collectors to conduct FLC of EVM machines in the presence of representatives of all political parties so that there is no doubt surrounding hacking of machines or any discrepancies which the opposition parties usually use as a reason to label the elections as flawed. Rajasthan chief electoral officer Ashwini Bhagat also addressed the conference and said that first time every booth in Rajasthan will make use of VVPAT machines.

“It will be for the first time that in all 200 assembly constituencies VVPAT machines with EVMs will be installed in all 52,000 booths to conduct election. This will ensure free and fair election,” said Bhagat.

Raghvendra, master trainer and deputy chief electoral office with the ECI, through a power point presentation elaborated functioning of VVPAT and EVM machines to the collectors.

Mock poll, data updating, uploading of candidates symbols, real time clock were featured in his presentation which helped collectors to learn functioning of the machine. He specially asked them to conduct FLC in the presence of political parties to clear any doubts they may have.

The collectors were told by the technical teams that there is no chance of hacking EVM or VCPAT using network or any device like wireless. A team of technicians from Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) which manufactures, supplies EVM machines also handed over the dos and don’ts list while using the machine to evade technical glitches at the time of polling.
