Rajasthan government is all set to send 100 students for a fortnight long trip to Silicon Valley in USA. The purpose of the trip is to initiate them to the global scenario regarding startups.

The students selected for this under the Student Startup Exposure Program (SSEP) are a mixed lot from rural, semi urban and urban backgrounds.

SSEP received over 20,000 applications from 7,000 teams and a final selection of 100; comprising 45 girls and 55 boys; was made.

This was done through a rigorous selection process based on an original proposal submitted to the state government.

Their proposal was evaluated on basis of multiple parameters like innovation, feasibility, on how the proposal would benefit people at large and also whether the idea could be converted into a sustainable business model for them.

The team would be leaving on July 30 for Silicon Valley. They would be attending the Hackathon in Bikaner on July 27 from where they would be flagged off for the trip by chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

The purpose of the trip is to ensure that they understand how the global startup system actually works the role and level technology is playing and where innovations are currently happening so the entire 15 days they will be in the Silicon Valley where they will have multiple interactions with the experts. They will also be a part of a training programme at Bukley College in University of California, informed departmental officials.

The students all have a background of technical education. They are either from BCA, MCA, engineering, especially electronics and communication engineering.

“The Student Startup Exposure Program is a step towards realising the Chief Minister’s vision to ensure world-class facilities and exposure to young entrepreneurs of Rajasthan. It also is a benchmark step for promoting women entrepreneurs. Quality has been the ultimate and only criteria of selection. I wish the selected youth best of luck for the trip and for their future as budding entrepreneurs,” said Akhil Arora, principal secretary & commissioner, department of IT&C, Rajasthan.
