1.Great Barrier Reef
Last-chance tourism- Looked upon as the biggest trend this year, last-chance tourism is about visiting places that are endangered like the Great Barrier Reef. While some believe that this will further heighten the problem that these places face, others are hopeful that tourism will bring in more revenue that could be used to looking after these destinations.
2.ANCESTOR
Back to the roots- Many of us come from families that have moved from their roots to cities for work or other reasons. Now, tracing your roots and going back to the places that your family originated from is becoming a major travel trend. Whether or not people have homes in their ancestral villages or cities, finding out more about the culture and exploring the destination sure has its lure for the modern-day traveller. It is a great way to connect with one’s past and know about their legacy.
3.Voluntourism
Voluntourism and sustainable tourism- The basic thought here is to visit a place as a tourist and make only a positive impact on the environment, society, and economy. Be it teaching a language to the kids or helping locals build houses for their community, this kind of tourism is about doing your bit for others. You get to mix the pleasure of travelling with doing something that would benefit the locals even after you have left the destination. The new-age traveller is extremely keen to hop on this bandwagon.
4.Extreme adventure
Extreme adventure- Whether it’s leaping off a mountain or diving deep into the ocean, millennials want to do it all. There’s no rush like indulging in an experience that you’ll remember for a lifetime. Giving the boost to this trend is the fact that you can now try many such sports in India, so you won’t end up shelling out international currency.
5.Blesuire
Mixing business with pleasure- What has now been called a Blesuire travel is a trend to watch out for. In the last one year, Blesuire travel has shown enough growth to consider this as a trend that will have a noteworthy impact in the tourism sector. People are now warming up more to solo travelling, extending their stay to take in the sights and sounds and spending time in a new destination all alone. Getting your family to join you after a work trip to further explore a destination, and spend quality time with your brood, is what people have learnt to manage. Many companies now offer their employees this option, sometimes offering to cover the expense of the employee and his/her spouse or partially pay for their extended time.
6.Millennials
Budget-travel rules- Millennials may love to lead the good life, but they’re keen to save money where they can while travelling. The rise in the number of hostels across India is a good indication that more tourists are keen on the overall experience than just living in the lap of luxury. This year, too, the travel industry is likely to see more budget-friendly options mushrooming in the country helping this section of travellers.
7.YOGA_PRACTICE
Holistic holidays- A vacation is a time to unwind and let go. It’s when you keep aside your diet and fitness regime and indulge in all that your vacay destination has to offer. However, many people are now looking at their break as a time to detox. This has led to a rise in the number of yoga retreats and wellness packages available around the world. Be it a cruise liner or a week by the beach, there’s a lot to choose from. These holidays seems to be perfect for those who want to explore a new place and also keep their health and wellness in mind. With more emphasis on eating and living healthy, it’s no surprise that holistic holidays are very much in demand.
8.Cruise
Cruise craze continues- While cruises have been a hot trend last year, it’s predicted that it will continue to be a craze this year, too. Besides families, corporates, too, have been showing a lot of interest in hopping on-board. Another popular trend is theme-based cruises. Be it wedding parties, health-based cruises or one designed for senior citizens, there is something for everyone.
9.Culinary Tours
Culinary Tours- “People who love to eat are always the best people,” said Julia Child. Well, it looks like there are a lot of good people out there. Foodies all over the world have decided to let the flavours of the land help them choose the destination that they will visit. Culinary tours have popped up in almost every place right from Delhi to Dublin. Be it learning on wine tours in France, or chocolate-making sessions in Brussels, there will definitely be something that will please your palate.
10.Multi-Generational Vacation
Multi-Generational Vacation- Multi-generational trips can be a challenging task, but it’s often a great way for a family to bond. It is especially helpful for those families who live in different parts of the world to reconnect. Travel agencies have taken a note of the demand for these trips and offer customised itineraries that include something for every individual as well as group activities.
11.Glamping
Glamping- Living in a tent not only gives you a chance to get close to nature during the daytime but also offers the opportunity to enjoy the quiet of the outdoor and gaze upon a million stars. However, not everyone wants to rough it out. That led to the rise of glamping. And over the years, more and more people have shown an interest in living in the outdoors, provided they have the luxury that a good hotel would offer. From luxury tents to igloo pods, there are all sorts of options for those who want to try this.
12.Airbnb
Airbnb- Airbnb changed the way people travelled. It allowed tourists to visit places on a budget that didn’t seem likely at one point. This has proved to a blessing especially for those who want to spend a long time at a place. Renting out a hotel for a long duration will surely prove more expensive than hiring an apartment. While earlier it was estimated that it would be the budget traveller who would opt for such accommodation measures, over the last one year even families and affluent travellers have shown a liking for it.
