An eclectic range of media skills and neo-technology make School of Broadcasting and Communication too cool to be just another media school, shares MD, Tushir Choudhary
Media has made the world shrink into a nutshell, bringing news and information on small handheld devices that are accessed anytime, anywhere.
Gone are the days when it was mandatory to wait for the morning newspaper or sit around for one’s favorite news to be broadcasted. Today’s media channels have grown from simply supporting one way communication, into becoming channels of mass interaction that allows the audience to question the validity and authenticity of the news and information being delivered. Technology has transformed the media landscape into information anywhere, and at any time. However, this transformation requires professionals not only possessing strong media skills, but also ones that can adapt and absorb the rapid change that is taking place in technology making today’s media even more potent.
School of Broadcasting & Communication (SBC) is a launch pad, wherein professionals are groomed not only in traditional media skill sets, but are provided hands on training in the modern technology that drives today’s media world. With focus on DIY practicals and industry collaboration, SBC transforms a media aspirant into well-versed media professional. SBC is Mumbai’s first- and oldest media institute to offer media degree programmes and is affiliated to the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism & Communication, with India's Vice President as its Chancellor.

Course: Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication
Interested in: Advertising
Favourite thing about the course: Having survived my two years in Science, this course came as a whiff of fresh air. As someone who appreciates the Social Sciences, I get to learn about its relevance in the present media scenario.
What's cool about SBC: The best thing about the college has to be its professional yet friendly environment where one is motivated to strive for excellence. The faculty has been very helpful whenever I’ve needed any career advice and is extremely supportive in general.
A lesson well-learnt: It’s an ever -changing industry and one needs to adapt to any given situation very quickly. It’s very competitive and to tackle this, one needs to be open for any challenges.
Industry idol: My idol has to be Neil French. (British Advertising Executive)That man is brilliant! With a blend of wit and words, his work is the best I’ve ever read.
Future forward: I would take the liberty of saying that I am quite ambitious and I expect more out of myself every day. So, in the next 5 years I see myself typing in the same word file, stressing over the same blank screen and the teasing cursor and coming up with much better work, but in my cabin, surrounded by a host of awards.

Course: Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication
Interested in: Public Relations.
Favourite thing about the course: I chose to take up Mass Communication because it is the only course that opens many doors to different types of opportunities and does not restrict one to a single field of study/career. It actually helps you find your areas of interests and strengths.
What’s cool about SBC: SBC is the only reputed media school that focuses singularly on media-related courses. The location, Andheri West, is of prime significance. In this field, it is essential that you are already exposed to media presence, so while studying the subject you can make contacts and learn how things function inside the industry. That apart, the management of our college is always open to new ideas from students and help them to bag great internships and placements!
A lesson well-learnt: It is very important to gauge where your interest lies—what your strengths are. By the time you finish your college, you need to have a proper plan in place so you can achieve what you want.
Industry idol: Sandeep Rao, Director, Gutenberg Communications (India’s leading Public Relations agency)
Future forward: My aim is to be recognized for the kind of work I do. I’m positive I only want to work on things that make me happy.
