Sridevi death: What is cardiac arrest and how to prevent it, all you need to know

Legendary actor Sridevi passed away on Saturday night in Dubai. The actor was of 54 years. 

Her demise came as a surprise to everyone as she had been fit and hale and hearty. A source close to the family revealed to BollywoodLife, “Sridevi was not ailing of any major sickness which is why this news is so shocking. She has been fit and hale and hearty for a long time. She suffered a massive cardiac arrest in Dubai where she was on a short break and passed away after doctors could not bring her back. This was something that no one expected.”

While her mortal remains are expected to be brought back to her Mumbai home on Sunday evening by chartered flight, Mumbai International Airport officials have stated.

A healthy person could also suffer cardiac arrest due to blockage in their arteries. Even if the person does not have a history of cardiac arrest, he or she still could still suffer from one. 

Doctors say that a person could only see the symptoms if the blockage could be 80-90 per cent in the arteries. 

There are certain factors that may put you at risk of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), including smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, alcoholism, a sedentary lifestyle.

Symptoms of cardiac arrest: 

No pulse
Sudden collapse
Lack of breathing
Loss of consciousness

How to prevent cardiac arrest? 

Screening for heart disease, especially, if you have a family history
Leading a healthy lifestyle such as – eating a nutritious, balanced diet and staying physically active
Maintaining a healthy weight
Avoid smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol
