Seven artists, both senior and junior, have put up their show ‘Melange’ at Studio Napean art gallery — a result of the artists’ bonding at an art camp in Alibaug over a weekend. The show started on September 17, is on till October 8 and includes works of art by Tushar Potdar, Suhas Bahulkar, Kishor Thakur, Ravi Mandlik, Vaibhav Saharkar, Manish Sutar and Shivamachary Y.

The show’s curator, Nandini Singh, says, “Promoting new and young artists has been one of our key ambitions when we started the gallery nearly three years back. When Manish Sutar approached me to curate a show with senior and junior artists, I thought it was a great idea. But there must be some reason for the artists to come together. So, I organised a short art camp in Alibaug.”

Tushar Potdar (born in 1979) said, “The camp was to promote youngsters like us by the senior artists. In this recession, it’s good that a gallery like Studio Nepean is supporting young artists. In my art, I try to pick that surreal aspect of life which is omnipresent and very real. It supports real life to sustain amongst the urban trivia.”

Senior artist and trustee of the Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Suhas Bahulkar (born in 1954) said, “My earlier works were inspired by our cultural traditions and were on human relationships and the role of destiny. My recent works are about transitioning, as I experience the turmoil of present life and a departure from our culture and values. It is a process, this transition.”

Multiple award winning artist, Kishor Thakur (born in 1957) and abstractionist painter Ravi Mandlik (born in 1960) have also showcased mesmerising canvases of their though processes at the exhibition.

The brilliantly coloured sculptures of Shivaramachary; the clean minimalist, but richly coloured compositions of Tushar Potdar; the cerulean blue abstracts of
Ravi Mandlik, and the contrasting images of Manish Sutar is a visual treat for
the viewers.
