Bangalore Fashion Week: Designer Ramesh Dembla creates spectacle through collection 'Aratrika'

When you think of the Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week, you cannot help but think of designer Ramesh Dembla. He’s been the only Bangalore designer who has been a regular supporter of the event. “When someone is doing something of this big a magnitude and that too in your own city, you ought to lend them your support,” says Ramesh.

He adds, “Recently, I was in Jaipur for a fashion syndicate where the country’s biggest names were part of it. I felt proud when everyone there called Bangalore the third best in the country, after Delhi and Mumbai. The best bit is that I’ve personally seen myself evolve along with BFW. So this makes this event all the more special for me.”

Ramesh also points out the importance of this event from an instance this season. “Take a look at how Rocky S, who was part of the fashion week in the first season, chose Bangalore over Mumbai. This proves that designers from across the country are looking at BFW seriously. Designers from the city should take a cue from this,” points out Ramesh.

In this Winter-Festive 2011 edition, Ramesh is all set to do what he does best, create spectacle through a grand collection called Aratrika — Speck of light. “Since this is the festive edition, my collection is filled with breathtaking gowns and saris which are in black with copper, silver and gold embellishments,” says he.

The designer, who’s known for creating a spectacle on stage, is looking at doing so this year too. “Last year, I had used golden nets and some props on the ramp, which added to the drama on stage and complemented my collection. This year, I’m looking at a shimmer filled ramp to bring in a three-dimensional view to the collection being showcased,” says Ramesh.

Quiz him if he will ever get rid of bling and over-the-top and he says, “When someone comes to watch a show on the ramp, they’re looking at something larger than life. I believe my approach to fashion too is something similar. I want my shows to be filled with grandeur and spectacle, but, at the same time, the clothes should be such that they’d look good off the ramp as well. Fortunately, I’ve been able to do that so far.”
