We assume you have successfully recovered from your extended New Year food fest by now. So make way for another — the Chinese New Year, as city restaurants are set to thrill you with some authentic and exotic Chinese tastes.

Begin the celebrations at China House (Grand Hyatt) as Chef Han Zhou crafts out a Chinese menu comprising Peking Duck, Steamed dumplings, Crispy Fried Chicken with fragrant garlic, and Pork and seafood pot-sticker. Chef Han Zhou, Chef de cuisine at China House, says, “As per the Chinese tradition, God placed 12 animals on the 12 doors of China to protect its people. Each year, the people of China celebrate Chinese New Year to remember each animal that protected them. This day signifies peace, prosperity and marks a good beginning. The New Year is celebrated with seafood, meat and dumplings for good health in the family.”

Spices (JW Marriott), offers a 10-course Chinese menu on the theme of ‘Year of the Dragon’. Steamed dumplings (Tiger Prawn Crystal Dumplings with Asparagus), Roast Duckling (and mandarin oranges and cucumbers), Steam Sea Bass (with creamy egg white) and Stew Pork in Oyster Sauce (twice cooked pork with Chinese cabbage) are some of the exotic dishes to look forward to.

Hakkasan too is celebrating this Chinese flavour with a special menu in place. Emperors Court (Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel) has an array traditional home-cooked Chinese food on the menu with the ingredients imported from China itself. “The entrance will be made to look like traditional Chinese huts. There will be a life-size dragon structure hanging from the centre of the restaurant. The whole restaurant will be decorated with Chinese lanterns and symbols,” says Exeutive Chef Surjan Singh Jolly. The menu includes Soups-Snow white fungus sweet corn soup, Prawn ball glass noodles soup, Pork ribs barbeque sauce, Wok fried squid, Stuffed Red Snapper, and Steamed scampi. There will be special ee fu noodles for main course and desserts like Nian gao.

Online food site DeliveryChef.in is offering heavy discounts on Chinese dishes. “It’s one of the most popular cuisines in the country and since Chinese New Year is around, discounts make for a good celebration,” says Aditi Talreja, director of the site.
