Indian consumers should increase coffee consumption: Coffee board

Chairman of Coffee Board GV Krishna Rau has asked Indian consumers to increase the consumption of coffee.

Inaugurating a coffee seminar here yesterday, he called upon planters to sell coffee directly to consumers to avoid middlemen, and fetch more prices in order to augment the quality of coffee from the perspective of enhancing exports.

There is a demand for quality coffee in the international market, and there has been a considerable increase in the domestic market for the brew as well, he said.

He also said big industrialists, who had been neglecting coffee, have begun to evince interest.

Former Coffee Board vice chairperson Thara Aiyamma told reporters the much-awaited coffee package was on the anvil and likely to be released soon.
