Taj group to run 3 hotels in Egypt

The projects will be Indian Hotels' first foray into the Arab country, whose tourism and real estate sectors have remained buoyant compared with regional markets such as Dubai.

Indian Hotels Co Ltd (IHCL), the Tata group’s hospitality company, is entering Egypt. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Palm Hills Developments, one of the premier real estate developers in that country, for managing three hotels being developed by the latter.

An IHCL official, requesting anonymity, confirmed discussions by the group’s international development team about foraying in the Egyptian market.  An email sent to Palm Hills Developments did not elicit any response.

IHCL is the second Indian hotel company to have a presence in Egypt. P R S Oberoi-promoted Oberoi Group operates two luxury hotels, The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh and Mena House Oberoi, and a cruise liner called The Oberoi Zahra Luxury Nile Cruiser in Egypt.

The three hotels will be part of Palm Hills’ upcoming developments at the North Coast, Ain El Sokhna at the Red Sea and in the historic city of Aswann in Egypt.

The first deluxe boutique hotel is due to be opened in 2013, and is located in the North Coast destination of Haciendabay.

According to information available on Palm Hills website, the Haciendabay development is positioned as a second home development at the North Coast.

The opulent resort project comprises a range of housing options and amenities including three hotel facilities with 572 rooms and an exclusive hotel-villas managed by Nikki Beach.

The second hotel at Ain El Sokhna at the Red Sea is part of the Palm Sokhna development which is nestled in the mountains of the eastern desert.

The development will house three hotels with 1,300 rooms, of which Taj will manage one. Project details of the third location - Aswann - were not available.
