21 trees fall, injure 2 as heavy rains lash Mumbai

South Mumbai saw higher rains compared to the suburbs as Colaba observatory recorded 58 mm of rains in 12 hours on Sunday, while Santacruz recorded 48.6 mm of rainfall.

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai intermittently on Sunday, leaving several areas waterlogged. Also, as many as 21 incidents of tree falling was reported. South Mumbai saw higher rains compared to the suburbs as Colaba observatory recorded 58 mm of rains in 12 hours on Sunday, while Santacruz recorded 48.6 mm of rainfall.

Water logging was reported in Nehru Nagar station road in Kurla East, near Chunabhatti depot in the eastern suburb, Veera Desai Road in Andheri (west) and Shastri Nagar, Kalina in Santacruz (East) in the western suburbs. Four houses collapsed, leaving atleast two people injured.

Out of the 21 trees that fell on Sunday, 10 were in the western suburb, six in the city and five were in the eastern suburb. However, no one was injured.

The city has already witnessed 587 incidents of tree falling so far, this monsoon. Meanwhile, six short circuit cases have been reported in the city, and one on the western suburb.

As per the BMC, 60 dewatering pumps were operated on Sunday, with 45 in the eastern suburb, and the remaining in the western suburb.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Mumbai will receive moderate rainfall on Monday, post which it will reduce for a week.

STATE OF AFFAIRS

  • On Sunday the maximum temperature recorded at Santacruz was 30.8 degree celsius while that at Colaba was 27.8 degree celsius. 
     
  • As per the BMC, 60 dewatering pumps were operated on Sunday.
