A police constable attached to the Shivaji Nagar police station was attacked by the brother of an absconding accused when the former had gone to arrest him on Saturday. T

he incident took place in Govandi.

Mohan Shinde sustained deep wounds which were inflicted by a sickle. He is being treated at Shatabdi Hospital.

Around 1.30pm, the Shivaji Nagar police received a tip-off about Mustafa Fakir Mohamed Shaikh, 20, who is wanted in cases coming near his house located on Road No.2 to meet his family. Shinde along with another constable, Dinkar Jaybhaye laid a trap and grabbed Shaikh.

“Shaikh raised an alarm and his brother Feroz came charging with a sickle. He attacked Shinde and the brothers fled from the spot,” said a police officer.

The police have registered a case of attempted murder against the brothers.
