Not only did Thursday's chartered plane crash in Ghatkopar claim five lives, it also brought work on an under-construction building in the area to a standstill. Four 12-storey buildings — Prithvii Lifescapes — stand at the site of the crash. The contractor who is carrying out the constructions at the site claimed to have suffered a damage of nearly Rs 50 lakh. He hopes to resume work from Sunday.

Jignesh Patel, who is carrying out the construction work at the site said he had got 50-55 tonnes of steel to the site for further use only on Tuesday. The crash damaged the steel and also some 20-25 sheets of plywood kept at the site. One of his workers, Naresh Kumar Nishad, also sustained injuries in the crash; his face and other body parts got burned. Patel said that while he spent money on his treatment, the labourer is additionally entitled to insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh.

"A total loss of close to Rs 50 lakh is what I have suffered so far. I am going to send the affected steel to a forensic lab for testing, to find out if it can be used," Patel said.

He added the damaged raw material weren't insured either. He expects the debris to be cleared soon and hopes to resume work from Sunday.
