As per a report released by Droom online automobile trend report, the colour most demanded by the customers is white, which is preferred across the segments including SUVs, sedans and even luxury cars. As a result of which, the car manufacturing companies try to give a variety of options, which are generally in the range of 9-12 colours with manufacturers providing dual coloured cars.
As per the report, white made up 46 per cent of the sales, followed by silver and grey with 20 per cent and 11 per cent fall in the top category of colours most in demand. On the other hand, colours like red, black and orange form around 5 per cent of the demand each. Beige with 3 per cent, blue with 2 per cent and brown with 2 per cent are the least in demand.
According to the experts, colours are the most expressive visual elements around the world and plays a significant deciding factor in choosing preference of a car. Even, the re-sale value of the vehicle to some extent is decided by the colour with white and silver colours giving the maximum returns to the owner instead of the other ones. The hot India weather, also plays an role in the demand as dark colours make the car more hot, specially during the summer season when the sun is scorching.
According to a study by marketing information services firm JD Power, the customers in the northern states of the country are apparently more biased towards white, with 66 per cent of the cars choosing it. In contrast, South of India , white accounts for 34 per cent. Secondly, West and South regions were found to be slightly more experimental with the colour choice with colours like red and maroon forming about 13 per cent of the sale. Likewise, in eastern India, about 14 per cent of new cars sold are painted red or maroon.
However, according to the industry analysts, the set conventional patter related to choice of colours is all set to change with more women owning the cars in the past few years which stands to about 10-12 per cent at present.
Women have found to be more biased towards brighter shades.
