A 28 year-old watchman has been arrested by the Bandra Police after he allegedly killed a woman on Sunday early morning. The accused identified as Anand Singh Shubhash Singh who first informed the cops after the murder to escape suspicion, was later nabbed after he failed to answer questions related to the case.

According to the Bandra Police, the deceased identified as Archana alias Shweta (43) is a resident of somewhere near Mira Road-Bhayendar locality and her body was found in a pool of blood after Singh informed the control room on Sunday morning. The police believes that Singh stabbed her throat and left the body as it is so that the police would never suspect his involvement behind the act.

"After reaching on the spot immediately after the police got inputs from the control room, Singh was present there waiting for the officers. He was pretending to be knowing absolutely nothing and was trying to be very helpful to the on duty investigating officers. This naturally made him the prime suspect and later, four officers took him for questioning where he gave different and contradictory statements to all officers after which he was arrested and later he confessed to the crime." said senior police inspector of Bandra police station, Girish Anavkar.

During the probe, the police found that Archana was known to Singh was a frequent visitor to the plot where Singh was deployed as a watchman. Singh after being drilled by the police revealed that Archana was blackmailing him and was also trying to extort money from him for a while and later after getting saturated by her, he slit her throat by a knife.

"Singh who hails from Jhansi, was hired around 8 months back by a contractor who is in charge of the plot which is meant for construction of a residential building. The contractor used to leave by evening and only Singh used to keep a watch on the entire plot which is devoid of CCTV. The dead body was rushed to Bhabha hospital where she was declared dead before arrival. There are two marks of slit on the throat and we have also recovered the knife used as the murder weapon. The body has not been claimed by anyone as of now and we are trying to find the profile of the deceased from Bhayander side. We have charged the accused under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and necessary investigation is under progress." Anavkar added.

Room For Doubt

As per police, Singh was very helpful to on-duty investigating officers and pretended to know nothing about the incident. This raised their doubts. During probe, he gave contradictory replies
