Motorists, brace for blocks on stretches of the Link Road all through the night, from midnight to 6 in the morning. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is constructing the Andheri-Dahisar Metro-2A corridor on behalf of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), has started blocking the roads for launching of girders.

The traffic is being diverted to parallel service roads between Andheri and Dahisar. DMRC officials said that the night-long work will speed up the civil construction, which has been delayed by three-four months.

A DMRC official said, "We used to reserve several lanes along the Link Road for launching the girders, but now we have started blocking traffic completely on one side, leaving the other open to traffic during night hours when the flow of vehicles is sparse."

The official added, "At times, one side of the traffic is diverted to the other side but at many stretches, the traffic is blocked completely. We direct them to service roads parallel to Link Road."

At several locations in Goregaon, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar, the DMRC has been blocking traffic completely on both lanes.

The civil construction of Metro-2A started in 2016 and was expected to be completed by 2018, but now the project is likely to be finished by the middle of next year.

Furthermore, several more such blocks will be put in place for two more Metro corridors — DN Nagar-BKC-Mandale Metro-2B and Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavli Metro-4.

The construction of Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7 corridor being carried out on Western Express Highway is also expected to be completed around mid-2019. It is being executed by the MMRDA.
