To ensure safe travel of rail commuters, especially women, travel safely during Holi, which will be played on Monday, the Government Railway Police (GRP) have formed special teams to prevent incidents of eve-teasing and molestations in trains and stations.
The railways cops have also been asked to travel in the ladies compartment to avert any unforeseen situation, officials said.
"While railway policemen would travel in trains through the day, a team would be stationed at railway stations so that they are accessible as and when required. During festivals, men travel in gangs and many times some are inebriated. Such people misbehave with women at stations or pass lewd comments," said a senior GRP official.
The railway police have urged commuters to approach them if they come across any incidents of eve-teasing or balloons are hurled at them.
Meanwhile, the city police have already started an anti-balloon drive, which would be carried out more vigorously on Sunday and Monday. Teams would be doing rounds on the tracks, especially in areas where slums are located. Action will be taken against those who are caught hurling water-filled balloons on trains as it can cause serious injuries, said an official.
